the shrine, mud wall samnsung ac

After working in Morocco in 2018, we were able to dig deeper into the vernacular techniques of architecture and urbanism in the Islamic world during our stay at Kooshk residency in Tehran, Iran.

The installation brings together two local architectural elements deriving from a different era. A wall made of sun dried, mud bricks curves around a mechanical air conditioning ventilator, while the whole is enlightened with candles. The setup refers to a shrine, in which the vernacular wisdom submits itself to the advantage of contemporary techniques.
